Kansas City has the world's greatest bookstore, and it's not a corporate chain. I always go here first instead of the corporate stores.

The Kansas International Film Festival is in it's 6th year. From controversial documentaries that will never play in a theater to new cutting edge independent features, this is a cool festival, and you wouldn't expect something like this in Kansas.

The Democrats should take a page from this book and get on the ball before it's too late.

Robert Greenwald is a classy documentary filmmaker. Serious stuff, important stuff. Buy the DVDs and show them on campus, in church basements, wherever people who are not stupid congregate.

Kelley Baker is a true independent filmmaker. The System won't accept him, so he goes around The System and gets the job done. You can order reasonably priced DVDs of his self-distributed movies. He does cool workshops too, and tells people things they don't want to hear but need to hear.

The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It makes as much sense as the creationists in Kansas. More, actually.

All of Benjamin Meade's documentary films have an interesting point of view, from an academic look at American stag films, to a song-and-dance number with serial killer Bob Berdella, to how Corporate Fundamentalism is screwing with music and film.
